Black Panther is finally upon us, and like 2017’s Wonder Woman, it is not only a critically-acclaimed big-budget superhero film that aims to please fans of the genre, but an actual historic moment for cinema and culture. Though some argue that Will Smith has released several action films throughout his career and that Blade came out in the 1990s, many feel like Black Panther is the first standalone film headlined by a superhero of African descent to truly embrace the lead character’s race and origins....

The Passport has been unfairly square-shaped in some quarters. It is definitely not that (the length and width are distinctly differently), but that said, at 90.3 mm, it certainly is one of the widest handsets out there (the Note 4, which seems big, is a mere 78.6 mm!), giving it a slightly slabbish appearance. Whether it looks good or bad, however, is going to be a matter of taste. Those addicted to large touchscreens with sliver like thickness will find it ghastly....

Bloomberg reports that Apple is currently testing using 3D facial detection as a replacement for Touch ID fingerprint authentication. The report also believes the new iPhones could include the ProMotion increased refresh rate displays seen in the new iPad Pros as well as a dedicated Apple Neural Engine chip for handling AI. With the iPhone 8 expected to feature a design with a dramatically reduced bezel, analysts have made various predictions about where Touch ID will go including within the display (as Qualcomm recently displayed), behind the iPhone, and in the power switch....

Social media can be a powerful tool, one that, when used properly, leads to all sorts of outcomes of varying degrees of importance, like, say, learning the premiere date of BoJack Horseman season 5. In a clever bit of social media marketing, Netflix used the endlessly irritable BoJack Horseman account to announce that season 5 of the critically acclaimed adult animated series will hit the streaming service in September. The announcement made for a well-planned effort between the official accounts for BoJack and Netflix, with another user, whose question as to when the series would return, ended up serving as the catalyst for the official statement....

HBO’s surprising hit TV show (with a second season on its way?) Big Little Lies is, for the most part, a very loyal adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, which was published in 2014. There are, however, some quite substantial differences between the source material and the miniseries, which provoked characters to be altered, motivations to be challenged, outcomes to play out differently, and contexts to be transformed....

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’s official soundtrack listing is now released and it has a subtle nod to Harley Quinn and Joker’s break-up. In a few weeks, Warner Bros. will roll out their next DCEU entry that will feature some of DC’s female anti-heroes. Directed by Cathy Yan, it will see the return of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn since fans last saw her in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad from 2016....

Warning: SPOILERS for Black Panther! - In Black Panther’s game of thrones between T’Challa and Erik Killmonger, was Killmonger the rightful king of Wakanda? Killmonger threw the hidden African nation into temporary chaos when he arrived in the country of his heritage and laid claim to the crown. Also known as N’Jadaka, Erik’s father was Prince N’Jobu, the younger brother of the late King T’Chaka, the father of T’Challa. So even though Killmonger is American by birth, as a royal blood relative, he had the right to challenge T’Challa to ritual combat according to Wakandan law....

UPDATE: Read our obituary for the late, great Stan Lee. - Black Panther steps well beyond the Marvel formula, but that doesn’t stop it from containing all the classic Marvel Cinematic Universe hallmarks: the trademark humor, post-credits scenes, and, of course, a cameo from the one-and-only Stan Lee. And this isn’t just any Stan Lee cameo either - it may be his most self-aware appearance yet. Stan Lee cameos pre-date the MCU by almost twenty years (his first one was in 1989’s The Trial of the Incredible Hulk), but it’s as part of the shared universe that they’ve become truly ubiquitous....

The first trailer for Marvel’s Black Widow contains some connections and references to Avengers: Endgame, despite this being a prequel since Natasha Romanoff died in the latest Avengers movie. Set for release in May, 2020, Black Widow will see Scarlet Johansson reprise her role as the title character, and be joined by MCU newcomers Florence Pugh (as Yelena Belova), David Harbour (playing Red Guardian), and Rachel Weisz (as Melina). Directed by Cate Shortland with a script from Jac Schaeffer, Black Widow is the character’s first outing since her Avengers: Endgame death....

Even though Apple has reopened its retail stores in China, many of its supply chain operations are still in flux. A new report from Bloomberg details some of those struggles, but says the 5G iPhone 12 is still on track for this fall. Citing anonymous sources, the report explains that as of right now, the next flagship iPhones with 5G capabilities are “still on schedule to launch in the fall.” Mass production, however, isn’t slated to begin until May, so delays could still materialize once that process begins....

[This is a review of Better Call Saul season 2, episode 1. There will be SPOILERS.] - Perhaps the most noteworthy takeaway from season 1 of Better Call Saul was not its connection to Breaking Bad, or the feeling that, even though Walter White was nowhere to be found, his presence hung over the launch of the series like a porkpie hat-wearing cloud of smoke. But rather, as the series pushed deeper into the unfulfilling life of Jimmy McGill and his fruitless pursuit of acceptance and recognition and success, the more it became clear Jimmy was meant to break bad in a fashion distinctly suited to his particular set of skills....

CBS offers some new details about how The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon crossover episode will work, despite their differing time periods. Next spring, The Big Bang Theory will air its series finale, after 12 seasons and nearly 300 episodes produced. Co-created by prolific sitcom producer Chuck Lorre, Big Bang prepares to sign off on top, standing as easily the #1 rated comedy on TV. While the show has its share of haters, to call The Big Bang Theory any less than a huge success would be disingenuous....

Telling the fun yet emotional story of 14-year-old robotics genius Hiro Hamada was the 2014 Disney Animated film Big Hero 6. This 2014 big screen adaptation of a lesser-known Marvel comic made waves in theaters, leaving its mark as the third-highest grossing non-Pixar animated film from the Mouse House. Additionally, the movie went on to receive critical praise and even collected hardware from the 87th Academy Awards, where it won an Oscar for Best Animated Picture....

Based on the latest box office projections, Black Panther should surpass Avengers: Age of Ultron domestically after just three weekends. Marvel Studios has an ironclad track record commercially, but even for them, Black Panther is something special. Riding waves of positive buzz, the film annihilated the February record and hasn’t slowed down since. It’s in very exclusive company, reaching the $400 million mark in just 10 days time. The only film to top that figure quicker is Star Wars: The Force Awakens....

Character breakdowns for Black Widow have surfaced for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Scarlett Johansson solo movie. Although it has been months since it was first reported that Natasha Romanoff would be receiving her own film, there is still not much known about it. With filming possibly beginning early next year, some new details tease what other characters could be featured alongside and against Black Widow. Johansson’s MCU spy has been a fan favorite for years, but it wasn’t until Jac Schaeffer was hired to write the script earlier this year that signs of her solo movie really happening appeared....

Don’t count BlackBerry out just yet. In spite of their buyout addition to their buyout offer from Fairfax Capital for $4.7 billion late last month, the telecommunications company today announced plans at the Gartner Symposium in Orlando, Florida, to launch a new cloud-based system for managing users and applications across BlackBerry, Android, and iOS. The cloud service ambitiously plans to address the ‘bring your own device’ movement while addressing privacy and tech support at ‘less than a cup of coffee a month,’ according to BlackBerry....

NBC is developing a TV series version of the 2002 surfing movie Blue Crush. Reboots, remakes, and revivals of older properties continue to be a high priority for TV networks, with new projects materializing on a near-constant basis. Some of these projects are revivals of older TV series, while others are adaptations of films, or serve as a spinoff of a movie franchise’s universe. Falling into the second category is Blue Crush, an adaptation of director John Stockwell’s aforementioned 2002 movie of the same name....

The 2018 Galaxy S series devices, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are finally here. Samsung has made an official launch for these devices just prior to the MWC 2018. As expected both the devices come with some good specifications. Samsung has followed the trend and made these devices a true flagship of themselves. Both the devices are well equipped with features to make a good move in the premium device market....

Blumhouse would be interested in resurrecting other famous horror franchises following their new take on Halloween. Blumhouse has emerged over the last decade as the go-to studio for quality horror and genre movies. They specialize in finding unique, high-concept ideas like The Purge or Get Out and then producing them on low budgets. This practically guarantees the movie should at least make back its budget, but if the movies hit big then the filmmakers and studio reap the financial rewards....
