A new report from Bloomberg today sheds more light on what to expect this year’s update to the iPhone. The report says that Apple “isn’t planning major changes” for the 2021 iPhone, but one key upgrade is in testing: an in-screen fingerprint reader. Internally, Bloomberg says that Apple engineers are referring to the 2021 iPhone as an “S” year upgrade, which implies minor upgrades compared to the iPhone 12. The big change, however, is that Apple is testing support for an in-screen fingerprint reader for this year’s iPhone....

Well, not quite obsolete but sure enough Microsoft is issuing a challenge to Apple’s trademark gesturing with a new search shortcut called Lasso. Instead of holding your finger on a block of text in order to bring up the loupe and painstakingly dragging little blue dots to select the beginning and end of your selection, the Lasso tool has you draw freely around text on web pages, which triggers a quick search from that selection....

Black Mirror’s season 5 episode “Striking Vipers” stars Anthony Mackie and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as two old friends who reconnect via the latest version of their favorite video game - only their male bonding goes a little too far in the virtual reality environment. After a surprising early turn, “Striking Vipers” careens towards a strangely bittersweet ending. Danny (Mackie) is trying for a second baby with his wife, Theo (Nicole Baharie), but is bored by the mundanity of suburban life as a husband and father....

The characters from Black Panther are some of the most engaging and likable form the entire MCU. Even though most of these characters are relatively new to the MCU, and some have only appeared in just one film, they definitely made a big impact. Luckily, there are already plans in the works for Black Panther 2 which will give fans more time to get to know the characters they’ve already come to love....

One of the three co-founders of Blizzard Entertainment has announced that he is leaving his role after nearly thirty years of work with the company. His departure will mark the end of an era for the company. Blizzard was founded under the name Silicon & Synapse back in 1991 by three recent UCLA graduates: Allen Aldham, Mike Morhaime, and Frank Pearce. Silicon & Synapse started out as a company that dealt primarily with porting titles to other systems before it became Blizzard Entertainment in 1994, which was the same year in which they released Warcraft: Orcs and Humans for the PC....

Two space hunters track an A.I. escaping its spaceship as a female ghost in the visually-dazzling trailer for the sci-fi film Blood Machines. The 50-minute movie is a sequel to the 2016 music video “Turbo Killer”, which marked the first collaboration for Seth Ickerman (the alias used by the French artistic duo of Raphaël Hernandez and Savitri Joly-Gonfard). Created for the synthwave artist Carpenter Brut, “Turbo Killer” has amassed more than 7 million views on YouTube to date, and draws its inspiration from ’80s B-movies by the likes of John Carpenter (a la Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China) and cyberpunk classics like Blade Runner....

Billboard has announced that it will adjust how it weights and calculates streaming music starting in 2018. Changes will include more weight given for paid music services like Apple Music than ad-supported services. In an article describing all of the changes to come, the company said “it is our goal at Billboard to accurately portray in an unbiased manner how music performs relative to other music.” As we recently reported, music revenue is up 17% for the first half of the year thanks to streaming music, which made up over 60% of the revenue....

As part of Marvel’s Phase 4 slate, the franchise will be delving back into the past of one of its original Avengers, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. Set prior to the arrival of Thanos and all the death and misery he wrought upon the universe, Black Widow is a more personal adventure for S.H.I.E.L.D.’s premier assassin and explores Romanoff’s Russian past, her days in the KGB Red Room and her difficult upbringing, all while bringing some of those hidden ghosts back into the present....

Apple is said to be working on new Mac laptops and a desktop with Apple coprocessors, similar to the T2 chip seen in the iMac Pro and the T1 chip introduced with the 2016 MacBook Pro, according to Bloomberg. The publication also reports that a new iPad will be launching towards the end of the year. Details on these machines are scarce as they are presented as tidbits as part of a larger article on Apple’s chip division....

Borderlands 3 is the latest game to become a target of a subsection of the gaming community thanks to its Epic Games Store exclusivity. A number of Steam loyalists have been review bombing, criticizing, and negatively discussing games that have chosen to opt in to Epic Games Store timed exclusivity deals. The Epic Games Store was only announced at the tail-end of last year during The Game Awards 2018, but it has quickly gained steam in the interim....

A new Unicode text bug is being spread around today, popularised by a video by EverythingApplePro. It’s being called the ‘black dot’ bug because of its origins on Android as a bug relating to WhatsApp: it was being spread with the following emoji: <⚫> 👈🏻. The iOS version of this bug is a bit different in its mechanics, but neither variants actually rely on the visible black dot character to cause the freezes and crashes....

Better Call Saul season 5, episode 3 makes use of ants and a dropped ice-cream cone to symbolize Jimmy McGill’s character arc and transformation into Breaking Bad’s Saul Goodman. The fifth season of Better Call Saul is closer to Breaking Bad than ever before, especially when it comes to Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk). Now that The Big Bang Theory is over, fans are rewatching the series to get their fill of their favorite Pasadena, Califonia residents. We’ve watched this series closely for 12 seasons. These seven stars are apart of our nightly routine, just as dinner at Apartment 4A is for those on screen.
