Captain America: Civil War, has yet to be officially released in the U.S.. Nonetheless, the positive reviews for the latest Marvel offering have been rolling in, and reports suggest that Civil War has already crossed the $200 million mark at the international box office already.

Add to that the potential takings from the domestic box office, and those from the other countries in which it has yet to open, and it seems safe to assume that #TeamCap is doing rather well. Captain America: Civil War marks the start of Phase 3 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with an abundance of movies set throughout the MCU lined up to follow, including Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2.

However, it seems to be the Avengers who remain firm fan favorites, and the wealth of characters to choose from means Marvel are never short of potential for new movies. Despite this, Marvel have yet to deliver a female-led superhero movie. In fact, the only one scheduled so far is Captain Marvel (which won’t arrive until 2019), after female superhero Wasp co-headlines the Ant-Man sequel Ant-Man and The Wasp in 2018. Marvel would do well to listen to fans in this respect though, because the demand for another female superhero movie is certainly there.

Fandango conducted a poll (for USA Today) of 1000 moviegoers who have already purchased tickets for Civil War, and asked them which Marvel character they’d like to see in a standalone film. A massive 48% of the total vote went to Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. Vision, played by Paul Bettany came second, but with only 15%, followed by Falcon (12%), Hawkeye (10%), War Machine (8%), and Scarlet Witch with 7%. It doesn’t take a genius to realize Black Widow smashed the poll, but will Marvel listen?

Well, interestingly, Kevin Feige recently teased the idea of a Black Widow film, but was quick to point out that Marvel has a lot on its slate between now and the end of phase 3 in 2019; nine movies in total, hinting that it was too early to really discuss the possibility. But he did throw fans a bone by saying “Yes, for sure, I think that [Black] Widow at some point would be great.”

Though Black Widow seems to have been relegated to a supporting role in all the films she’s appeared in so far, Scarlett Johansonn’s commitment to the character and Natasha Romanoff’s grit and determination have endeared her to fans, causing her popularity to swell.

Fandango also asked its pollsters who had the best solo movies out of Captain America and Iron Man, and Team Cap emerged triumphant, with 57% of the vote. This is despite the fact that the Iron Man movies have been massive box office successes, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier made less than something like Iron Man 3 Maybe it’s just because Captain America is flavor of the month right now; it would be interesting to take the poll again as future films are released.

For now, though, it seems reasonable to hope that Marvel might listen to its fans with regards to Black Widow - and that they might also set about making tentative plans to bring Scarlett Johansson and Black Widow into the spotlight at the start of phase 4.
