Marvel Studios and Lexus are partnering up to feature a new car in one of Black Panther’s biggest action scenes. After a memorable supporting role in Captain America: Civil War, Chadwick Boseman reprises his role as T’Challa in his starring debut in the much-anticipated standalone Black Panther movie. Directed and co-written by Ryan Coogler (Creed), Black Panther is expected to give viewers the biggest look yet at T’Challa’s home country of Wakanda - and its politics.

As T’Challa, Boseman is expected to wrestle with his family’s legacy and fight for his rightful throne in Wakanda. But that doesn’t mean Black Panther will be without high-stakes action, as at least one massive sequence will involve plenty of high-end cars - and Marvel Studios just announced a new partnership with Lexus that will prominently feature one of the automaker’s newest models.

As revealed in an exclusive report by THR, Marvel Studios is partnering with Lexus to feature the 2018 LC model in at least one scene in Black Panther. The companies will launch their partnership with a private party on Friday at San Diego Comic-Con. The Marvel/Lexus partnership will also include an original Black Panther graphic novel written by Fabian Nicieza of X-Men and Deadpool fame and illustrated by Scott “Rahzzah” Wilson and Szymon Kudranski. According to THR, Black Panther will use a Lexus LC 500 to defeat the villain in the graphic novel.

Lexus marketing’s general manger Brian Bolain told THR that the 2018 Lexus LC’s “aggressive styling, high performance and agile handling are a perfect fit for the Black Panther’s quick, cat-like reflexes and superhuman feats.” Meanwhile, Marvel senior vice president of global partnerships Mindy Hamilton said that the studio worked with Lexus’ team to “build out a story that’ll familiarize fans with T’Challa as well as his advanced home nation of Wakanda.”

It’s likely that the new photo is from the same scene that was filmed in South Korea in March. The car chase reportedly involved 150 cars and 700 people, in addition to helicopters and hails of gunfire. You saw how fast Black Panther can run in Civil War when he, Bucky Barnes, and Captain America all outran cars as they chased each other. It only makes sense that the first Black Panther movie would feature a state-of-the-art, well-engineered vehicle in order to present some semblance of a challenge for the fleet-footed hero.

Marketing partnerships and cross-promotion were inevitable with a production the size of Black Panther and a franchise with the prestige of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The news of a partnership between Marvel Studios and Lexus may induce eye-rolls for some, but it’s unlikely that it would take away from the story being told. As long as Coogler puts forth the kind of effort he did with movies like Creed and Fruitvale Station, the storytelling in Black Panther will be fine.
