During E3 2019, Pearl Abyss announced that their highly popular MMORPG Black Desert would finally launch on PlayStation 4. Also announced was the intention for a global release of the game’s mobile counterpart, Black Desert Mobile. This news comes a few months after the highly publicized release of Black Desert on Xbox One, where the game was well received by fans and critics alike for its natural transition to a console platform.
E3 2019 has certainly been an exciting event for gamers, from the bombshell announcement of Keanu Reeves’ involvement in Cyberpunk 2077 to Nintendo’s revelation of a sequel to the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It’s truly been a conference for all kinds of gamers to sink their teeth into. So it was only a matter of time before big news surrounding the MMORPG genre came to light at E3. It looks like Black Desert decided to take its shot, and announce the game’s continued platform expansion and accessibility to all kinds of players around the world.
During their Into the Abyss presentation at E3 2019, Pearl Abyss announced that Black Desert would release on PlayStation 4 in 2019. While an exact release date for the console wasn’t revealed, the game will officially be available for pre-order starting on July 2. Included will be early access options for those who pre-order, as well as in-game rewards. Additionally, Pearl Abyss announced that Black Desert Mobile would launch on IOS and Android devices globally in 2019, including a release in the United States. While Black Desert has maintained a steady fan base since its original PC release back in 2014, its expansion to Xbox One reinvigorated mainstream interest in the game. Through all three of its current platforms, the game boasts more than 20 million registered users. That number should only increase exponentially as it makes its way to a highly popular system like the PlayStation 4, which has dominated this current generation of consoles in sales and game quality.
Even so, its popularity will likely continue to grow on the Xbox One as well, as the game was recently added to Microsoft’s subscription-based Game Pass. Black Desert also launched a free expansion for the console, and rumors suggest that there will be even more free content released in the near future. With a release on PlayStation 4 on the horizon, as well as the imminent global release of Black Desert Mobile, the future has likely never been brighter for Pearl Abyss’ MMORPG title.
