A new Better Call Saul season 3 viral video promo features Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) in a training video for Los Pollos Hermanos. By its very nature, AMC’s decorated drama Breaking Bad often involved characters with very little regard for moral values or ethical principles, with series lead Walter White (Bryan Cranston) eventually becoming arguably the worst of the lot when it came to such failings. Still, he wasn’t the scariest man to inhabit the world of Breaking Bad, as most fans would likely give that honor to ruthless drug lord Gus Fring, who was essentially Walter’s boss for a good chunk of the series run.
While outwardly a friendly legitimate businessman, Gus quickly established himself as a man not to be trifled with, willing to torture and even outright kill anyone who opted to stand between him and his goals. Of course, Walter eventually found himself on Gus’ bad side, leading the latter to meet an untimely end at the hands of a face-splitting bomb in perhaps Breaking Bad’s most infamous character death of the entire series.
Thankfully, the fact that AMC’s currently airing spin-off Better Call Saul is a prequel enables fans to reconnect with characters who didn’t survive the events of Breaking Bad, the most prominent being regular cast member Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks). Soon, Gus Fring himself will rejoin the proceedings by joining the Saul mix, and a good chunk of the marketing for season 3 has focused on his big comeback. Continuing that trend is a new AMC viral video, which features Gus explaining the fine art of communication to prospective employees of Los Pollos Hermanos. Check it out above.
While the above video features the kindly public face that Gus seeks to present to the outside world, there are definite moments where his inner menace becomes apparent, suggesting that those who end up landing a job at Los Pollos Hermanos might soon regret ever applying at all. Most employees need only fear being fired by their bosses, while a worker who disappoints Gus seems to risk taking a permanent vacation from life if they mess up around him on the wrong day.
It remains to be seen how the still pre-Saul persona Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) - who looks likely to do some time behind bars thanks to the revenge of his brother Chuck (Michael McKean) - will end up getting acquainted with Gus, although one assumes Gus’ future enforcer Mike might play some hand in creating that connection.
